About the event

Drawing on a very large data-bank on individuals and their households, constructed for this study, a number of ideas about migration between rural and urban areas of developing countries are re-examined. Among the notions questioned are that rural-urban migration is: the chief source of rapid urbanization; a permanent relocation; reversed only by those who fail; sorting populations efficiently by skill-levels; and harming families left behind.
